For you to survive office politics, here are some tips that I can give you:

Internalize the concept of office politics. Once again, accept the fact that there is office politics. The best thing you can do is to understand it from the concept of your company. Each office politics differs from one organization to another, and solutions in dealing with it also differs one way or another.
Ignore. Yes ignore, you heard me right. If you keep on thinking about how to get away with it or outsmart your colleagues, there will come a time where you’ll forget your own career track and put pressure on yourself. Your work performance will drop and your boss will notice. Remember that office politics is always hurting one’s career if he or she takes too much attention to it.
Work WITH others. Again, acceptance is key. Accept that not everyone in the office is cooperative, proactive and enthusiastic like you. There will be procrastinators, cheaters, hypocrites and the worst of the bunch? People with crab mentality. These are the people who liked to pull people down, especially those that pose a threat to their career. Their mentality goes like this: “If I can’t have it, you can’t have it!” Now, the key to the success of the goals or mission and vision of an organization lies on the entire team or department. Becoming a team player is crucial to office politics. Rely on your team-building skills to foster good relations among your co-workers. Have lunch or coffee breaks with them in order for you to know them better. Get their perspectives in the organization and appreciate their point of view. Don’t contradict them but mutually respect their opinions. Communicate with them.
Work on your OWN. I am referring to your career track. Keep yourself busy with skills upgrading and personal development. Learn from the mistakes of others and don’t copy them. Be original on your own mindset and be wise. Be creative in solutions and finding alternatives to everyday situations. Be dynamic. Be spontaneous and smart at the same time.
Separate personal from corporate. Don’t mesh your problems with office problems. That is a good rule of thumb. Not only does this affect efficiency and quality of your tasks that can affect your career greatly, relationships among your colleagues reflect that you are not drawing a line between personal life and career life. These two domains are very different and too much interlacing of these two is not healthy for your career. Remember, your personal problems may be used against you.

Dealing with office politics is no easy talk. Knowing these basics can help you, but in the end, no one can exactly fix your problems for you but yourself. Keep in mind that most stressful problems are psychological that when it is overly thought, can create a big impact and difference in your physical and emotional aspects of your life.
